The Music Thread

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

I'm pretty sure that in that '98 video, he sings "....and I PRETEND to pray." Sounds like it to me. I'm also pretty sure I saw that '67 video from Ed Sullivan Show the night it was on. It's hard to remember everything when you're on drugs.

Opps! Aren't they singing "I BEGAN to pray" in that Ed Sullivan video? I never knew the actual words were "pretend." Guess I learned something. But Sullivan was famous for wanting rock stars to change their lyrics for his show....The Doors, Rolling Stones, evidently others as well. Sorry to sound a false alarm.

And, yes, there were definitely good drugs in '67 but I didn't get personally involved until '69.

You got high AND watched Ed Sullivan?! Damn, you've always been a wild man.

That's right.
It's what he sings on Ed Sullivan, as confirmed by CC.
It's also what he sings at Monterey Pop, also confirmed by CC on the HD version.
Here's where any confusion likely comes from:
If written today Marco Rubio would call it "anti-Christian".

Context: They sought shelter on a cold day, found a church and went in. Instead of just huddling in the corner, they pretended to pray. They may not have been religious, but by following religious behaviour, they were respecting the priest/church and certainly not "anti-Christian", Marco.

Ah, I remember when the song came out on the radio and it seemed pretty clear they sang "I began to pray." Never knew it was an "opps" the whole time. I had never looked up the words myself until GoCubsGo corrected me this morning. Sure enough, "pretend" is in the lyrics I found.

Nah, '67 was a couple of years before I hit my stride. As I recall, it was summer '69 when I discovered the new world.....and I'm still wandering in it.

Tina Turner has sadly left the building. She was one of the best. I saw her wear out two sets of backup dancers at age around 60. She won't be replaced.

How's that for an unlikely beginning for the glittery, shimmying, powerhouse, electrifying, super superstar Queen of Rock 'n' Roll? Then there was her rebirth:
... . I wanted to continue using the name 'Tina Turner,' which Ike owned. I walked out of that courtroom with the name Tina Turner and my two Jaguars, one from Sammy Davis, Jr. and one from Ike, and that's it. It seems so funny now — no money for food or rent, but two Jaguars! Considering my age, 39, my gender, my color, and the times we lived in, everything was strong winds against me." ...
She became estranged from her 4 sons, and her 2 biological ones preceded her in death :( . Thank goodness she met Swiss music executive Erwin Bach in 1986.

All hail Anna Mae. :-|| :-|| :-||

I stumbled on this, 21 years, 25 million albums and 45 million singles, three Grammys and $45 million ago:

Kelly Clarkson full audition

That's not mean, it's generous.
But it seems Kelly has some significant contributing health issues that cause most of the weight, so I apologize. Probably if given the choice, she'd like to look like another one of her AGT contempories:

American Idol rather than AGT. Kelly Clarkson won Season 1, Carrie Underwood won Season 4.

Carrie is a beautiful woman, but that pic looks like a scary Botox OD, or a Stepford Carrie. There's a lot of debate over whether she's had work done, -0-? :

She had an accident in 2018ish and had some face damage. Maybe she took advantage of the opportunity to get some renovation.
Just days after hosting the 2017 CMA Awards, the 35-year-old country singer fell down some steps while walking outside around her home in Nashville, Tennessee. She sustained multiple injuries in the fall, and was rushed to a hospital.

While the extent of her injuries was not known at the time, it was later revealed that Underwood had broken her wrist, which required surgery, and had to get 40-50 stitches for her facial lacerations.
