The Music Thread

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Isn't Elton retired?

How can he have a scheduling conflict?

Has his kid got a play or something?

Holy shit.
Farewell Yellow Brick Road is an ongoing tour by English musician Elton John that began in Allentown, Pennsylvania, on 8 September 2018. It is intended to be John's final tour and will consist of more than 300 concerts worldwide.[1] The tour's name and its poster reference John's 1973 album Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.

I don't think banging a 16-17 year old and lying about it meets any standard definition of "pedophile." Nevertheless, turns out about 2/3 of the population overall favours keeping the monarchy, but - but - only 31% of those ages 18-24 want to keep it. Probably a lot of bands' fans in that group. Of course, about 77% of geezers favour the monarchy, so Sir Rod, etc. should be fine.
:D True, "pedophile" is hyperbole. Statutory rape and/or corrupting a minor depending on UK, NY and U.S. Virgin Islands law. At best being too creepy for many members of the public is still a loser issue for performers.

I wonder if respondents mean "the monarchy" as a concept or this monarchy.

Yeah, but Andrew has been chastised and banished. I doubt he's much of a factor in approval score of the monarchy at this point. I think the survey results I referenced were from before the Queen died, so I'm guessing they apply to the monarchy as a means of governing. Youngish Brits - probably haven't been paying attention to what a chaotic mess a republic can make of itself with only a few poor election choices. They might also consider how many republics have been around as long as their monarchy as well as how many have crashed and burned in less than 50 or a hundred years.

Your link on the shunning performers doesn't think that Andrew is irrelevant, listing him first among reasons IIRC. Then, just this week:

Harry and Meghan residence Frogmore Cottage offered to Andrew - reports

I get that there are 2 sides to the rift with Meghan and Harry, but Spare has been a massive bestseller. Whatever they supposedly did, ousting them for a not quite ;) pedophile is a big slap in the face, one that the public and performers can't help but notice.

I'm hostile to monarchy, but I get that many Brits like it for whatever reasons. I was again repeating your link's statements about it and I don't see Chuck ever making it more popular. We'll see if William and Kate can rescue it with adorable spin cycle races. Hmm, maybe if William wears heels . . .

So Rolling Stone thinks "Black Sabbath" on the original "Black Sabbath" album is the greatest metal song ever. Not so sure I agree with that, but fershure I remember it and remember it blew me away at the time.

Never got me as much as War Pigs.

"War Pigs" is a good choice, Rolling Stone's #5. I'd have a hard time choosing between Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath for the greatest, and first, metal band. Honorable mentions also go to Deep Purple, Iron Butterfly and Steppenwolf. Guess I'm not the only one:
Heavy metal music
Origins: late 1960s and early 1970s

Critics disagree over who can be thought of as the first heavy metal band. Most credit either Led Zeppelin or Black Sabbath, with American commentators tending to favour Led Zeppelin and British commentators tending to favour Black Sabbath, though many give equal credit to both....
I'm bi-continental, nttawwt. I also have a fond spot for Mott the Hoople.

"Black Sabbath" is not my favorite of theirs. IMO it's kind of pretentious, and I'd call it more of a spoken word prayer or an invocation than a song. I considered "Iron Man" (Rolling Stone #7), but will go with Rolling Stone #13:

As for Led Zeppelin, let's just say all of Led Zeppelin IV. None of IV's songs make Rolling Stone's list. Their only entry is #18 "Immigrant Song" from Led Zeppelin III. :headscratch:

Swifticulous? Bossbonkers? Springsteep?

Greensboro, NC 3/25 is the closest to me. The cheapest single ticket in the 20K capacity Greensboro Coliseum is $133. The cheapest two tickets are $145 each. Both are nosebleed BEHIND the stage. Good thing he's a champion of the working class, otherwise the prices might be really bad.

The 17,500 capacity Kia Forum in Inglewood, CA has similar prices for the 12/4 show, also nosebleed BEHIND the stage.

I would pay $150 for decent tickets, but there's no point in going if you can't see the concert, and decent tickets are $250 and up. I think we gave over $200 for Elton John back in November, though. $500+ for tickets, $50 to park, and you still don't have a t-shirt. I think we'll pass on this one.

Inglewood floor tix up to $7,667 each.
Greensboro floor tix up to $10,166 each.

Floor seats are nice, but I wouldn't want to be surrounded by the people that can afford them.

I know a guy who got lucky on Swifty tickets. Got in before TicketMaster crashed, and bought 4 tickets. Two for his daughter and her boyfriend, and two for re-sale. Sold them for over twice face value, so he essentially gave his daughter a Taylor Swift concert for free. Hero Dad.
