The Music Thread

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Politics aside, I was never a Kid Rock fan. And I never have any sympathy for anybody who glommed on to Trump after 2016, but it does look as if Kid Rock is another Trump casualty. I'm pretty sure he'd be drawing better crowds if he'd never associated himself with Trump. His contemporaries Eminem, Santana, NSYNC, Madonna - still drawing crowds.

I would not have thought of Kid Rock worthy of mention in the same breath as those other musicians, O Really, but I guess he did well for awhile. I never liked his style of rap/rock then country/rap and considered him to be a gimmick performer.

Another tour stop for Kid Rock’s “Freedom 250” tour is at risk of cancellation after selling less than 200 tickets....
In Pennsylvania? Seems that even MAGAts can't stand him, or they've become ashamed to be MAGAts.

Agreed fershure, but yeah, he was big enough that he should still be able to draw a crowd even if that crowd is a bit older than it used to be. "His 1998 debut album, Devil Without a Cause, went diamond and sold 11 million copies in the US. He had four Billboard "Hot 100" hits between 1999 and 2000, including "Bawitdaba" and "Cowboy"

Maybe a better comparison would be Vanilla Ice, a somewhat oneish hit wonder who has a fairly full concert schedule (along with his construction business) at least through March and April, playing the Great Park Sports Complex in Irvine as well as various casino appearances.

Whether fair or not I always thought of them as equivalent, Vanilla Ice. They're both pretty shady.

Found this from EriKa KirK's favorite performer:
... In a 2001 appearance on Saturday Night Live, Rock said "Why is every guy in America waiting on these chicks to turn 18? If there's grass on the field, play ball." These remarks were about the Olsen twins who were 14 at the time.
 Rock was 30 in 2001.

Yeah that "countdown" was pretty disgusting - as if the ones counting would have any chance. I remember "shock jocks" Lex & Terry (who somehow still have a show after all these years https://lexandterry.com/) making a lot of countdown jokes. They would also have been 30-something back then too.

In case y'all ever DJ a funeral -

What song is inappropriate to play at a funeral?
AI Overview

Inappropriate funeral songs often have lyrics about death, the devil, or are overly celebratory, making them unsuitable for a somber occasion. Examples include "Another One Bites the Dust" by Queen, "Highway to Hell" by AC/DC, and "Ding Dong! The Witch Is Dead". Other examples are songs like "Stayin' Alive," "Happy," and "(Don't Fear) The Reaper," due to their upbeat or thematically unfitting nature.

Songs about death or the afterlife

"Another One Bites the Dust": by Queen
"Highway to Hell": by AC/DC
"Ding Dong! The Witch Is Dead": from The Wizard of Oz
"(Don't Fear) The Reaper": by Blue Öyster Cult
"Death on Two Legs": by Queen
"I'm Not Gonna Miss You": by Glen Campbell

Songs with a celebratory or dismissive tone

"Happy": by Pharrell Williams
"Best Day of My Life": by American Authors
"I Will Survive": by Gloria Gaynor
"Stayin' Alive": by Bee Gees
"It's Too Late To Apologize": by Timbaland ft. OneRepublic
"Always Look on the Bright Side of Life": by Monty Python

Songs with potentially offensive lyrics

"Fuck Off and Die": by Green Day
"She's a Bitch": by Missy Elliott
"I Don't Give a F*: "** by Tupac

:D

I want "Highway to Hell" and "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life" played at my funeral.
"Celebration" by Kool & the Gang
"Goodbye to You" by Scandal
"Bye Bye Bye" by NSYNC
I fought the law - The Clash & Bobby Fuller Four

Gina Levantal is a beautiful woman singing a beautiful song with powerful lyrics. Turn on the subtitles/closed captions in English. Pay close attention, especially to the chorus.

:o That's nasty. :laughing-rolling: Gotta be an AI translator, right? It's been up since September  . None of the top comments mention it. Maybe they get censored - irony.

This might be a bit old for some here, but for those who lived it and those who wish they had, I present "1967 in an Hour"
