The Music Thread

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

I stumbled on this, 21 years, 25 million albums and 45 million singles, three Grammys and $45 million ago:

Kelly Clarkson full audition

She was a firecracker from the very beginning.
Not to mention 75 pounds ago.

That's mean.

Also, three MTV Video Music Awards, five Daytime Emmys, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame ago.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kelly_Clarkson
That's not mean, it's generous.
But it seems Kelly has some significant contributing health issues that cause most of the weight, so I apologize.

Cool. I'm not ragging on you, but this was on today and I thought of our chat. I'm not a viewer but surfed to it in the middle of the song and honestly wondered, 'Who is Kelly's young, thin, pretty guest who is singing so beautifully?'

 Imagine my surprise when she began to introduce the rest of the show. 41 :-|| 40+ pounds lost recently, more total since her divorce - revenge!

She is just a bitty thing at 5′ 2″.

It's a Beatle's song that's almost not a Beatle's song. Feels more like a John Lennon song that the rest of the lads are singing on, but the video is nice nostalgia.

Well, that was often the case.

John Lennon was a pop genius.... At the start of his career with The Beatles, he was the principal songwriter of the group, slowly incorporating the work of Paul McCartney and later still George Harrison as he began to let go of the reins of control and welcome the new sounds....

Below, we’re paying tribute to John Lennon’s contribution to the Fab Four’s back catalogue and revisiting every song he wrote for The Beatles.

There’s a lot of them — 73 to be exact — with each one telling a story about Lennon at that time....
 :P

Is the bearded guitarist an AI-aged deep fake Lennon? Nice closeup at 3:25.
If not, why doesn't he get a credit according to Wiki?
If so, he must not be shown singing since we have Lennon's actual voice from 1977 and an AI lip sync would be weird.
If so, nice job, he looks like a real person sitting in the studio.
... John Lennon wrote and recorded it around 1977 as a solo piano home demo, but left it unfinished....
But, playing guitar works for me.

Anyhow, thanks for what's probably the final song, lads!
Ringo is 83.
Paul is 81.
George would be 80.
John would be 82.

I believe that's 1990's George Harrison.

I believe that's 1990's George Harrison.
 I fail Rock and Roll 101.
 I fail basic observation. Paul being much younger when sitting with him is a HUGE clue. Sgt Pepper George and 1990s George in the same shot at 1:55 is another nice touch that I should have picked up on.

Funny that there's not a single shot of John playing piano. Wiki says:
... "'Now and Then' languished in an unfinished state, its vocal and piano melodies enshrouded in too dense a thicket of abrasively scratchy hiss to massage into the high-quality recordings the Beatles were known for.

... The neural network, called MAL (machine-assisted learning) – named after the Beatles' road manager Mal Evans, and as a pun to HAL 9000 of 2001: A Space Odyssey – was first used for the 2021 documentary The Beatles: Get Back and later the 2022 mix of Revolver, based directly on four-track master tapes. WingNut applied the same technique to Lennon's home recording of "Now and Then", while preserving the clarity of his vocal performance separated from the piano....
Sounds like none of John's piano survived to the final cut. Only Paul is given piano credit:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Now_and_T ... #Personnel
Also, George, along with Ringo, is given backing vocals credit, though there isn't video of him singing in the 1990s.

I like John conducting the 2023 orchestra, 2:35 - 3:10.

The only stuff Hall and Oates ever did that I sort of liked was their "Abandoned Luncheonette" record from 73. It had a couple of good songs. "She's Gone" was pretty good, and "Las Vegas Turnaround (The Stewardess Song)" as well. I never much liked them after that.

Dolly Parton Earns Her Highest Charting Album Ever with 'Rockstar': 'Wow, This Is a Big Thrill!'
Parton's 49th solo album 'Rockstar' was released on Nov. 17

What can't Dolly Parton do?

After releasing her 49th solo album — Rockstar — earlier this month, the country legend, 77, has broken a new record.

Rockstar, which opened at the No. 3 spot, marks Parton's highest charting album ever on the Billboard 200 charts....

Prior to the release of her latest LP, the "9 to 5" musician had only earned two top 10 titles, only climbing to the No. 6 spot on the charts.

She initially entered the top 10 of the Billboard 200 alongside Linda Ronstadt and Emmylou Harris with their 1987 collaborative album Trio and then returned to it in 2014 with her 44th solo album Blue Smoke.

Rockstar is also Parton's biggest debut week ever and biggest sales week in 30 years, according to a press release. The album debuts at No. 1 on Billboard Top Rock Albums, Billboard Top Rock & Alternative Albums, Billboard Top Country Albums, Billboard Top Album Sales, Billboard Top Current Album Sales, and Billboard Independent Albums charts, as well as No. 2 on Billboard Vinyl Albums and #2 on Billboard Tastemaker Albums charts.

The Grammy winner unveiled her latest album Rockstar on Nov. 17, and the 30-track set features both covers and original songs as well as collaborations with artists including Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Elton John, Pink, Brandi Carlile, Melissa Etheridge and Sting, among others....

My favorites are the 2 girls with yellow shekeres jumping up and down. One of the commenters says they're mimicking the way Ozzy used to jump around on stage. If so, even cooler.

So we went to a concert by the local symphony of mostly Christmas music. Outdoors and a sunny 74. Left and cruised up the beach for a sunset, picked up some salmon at the fishmonger, grilled it with some lemon-herb butter sauce and chased it down with a nice Viognier.

One of my favourite Christmas carols -an excellent rendition of "Winter Wonderland" is from the first year of SNL. Who knew Garrett Morris could actually sing?
