The Cinema Thread

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

It.has to rein as having the most great actors of any bad movie.

The uncredited at the end of the list list includes Penny Marshall and John Ritter

That's interesting - Laverne snuck into films for fun, apparently. She and Garry Marshall also had uncredited cameos (but with dialogue and long enough to recognize them) in the original "Hocus Pocus" from 1993.

Unless this is a new Knoxville cocaine drop, I remember this from about ten years ago. At least one guy fell out of a plane and landed in a driveway. No cocaine for him.

It's very loosely based on that, and Jeanne Moos discusses it.
Too much coke for the guy's chute, he died.

The 2010 one. It's based on a book. The author is really good IMO. Remains of the Day starring Anthony Hopkins is also based on a book by the same author. He's got a very distinct style of writing.

Cocaine is all right. I guess the best thing that could be done for it is make a movie about it. I never got too excited about cocaine. I thought it was over rated. And too expensive. But aside from that, I'd probably do what the bear did.

 I had a brief binge in the 1980s when a generous roommate was dealing it. Fun enough, but not so much that it was something that I pursued when that ended.

Twitter Roasts Jennifer Lawrence For Saying She’s The First Woman To Lead An Action Film
The backlash comes after the “Hunger Games” actor made the controversial comments in Variety’s “Actors on Actors” segment.

Obviously wrong and she's getting raked for it and will probably retract soon, but who came to mind for y'all? I thought of a couple before reading the article.
Spoiler:

Sigourney Weaver and Angelina Jolie
The article:
Pam Grier - True, but I was never a fan of Blacksploitation films.
Sigourney Weaver
Uma Thurman and the ladies of Kill Bill
Mila Jovovich - The Fifth Element was really co-lead with Bruce Willis, Gary Oldman, Chris Tucker. Then came the Resident Evil franchise  , but I never got into it.
"Linda Hamilton, HELLO."
Angelina Jolie
Halle Berry - Sorta, X-Men series (including J-Law) is an ensemble cast, Bond girl was a supporting role, Catwoman was "much-derided", but it was the lead. My bad.
The list should be longer, so J-Law's underlying point about Hollywood bias stands.

Katharine Hepburn in the African Queen

Jenny has always been too full of herself.

I'd heard that claim made on Jennifer's behalf before. Clearly not accurate in the absolute, but I agree that the point made is sound. Even where there have been "strong" women in films, much of the time they're still co-hero (at best) with some male.

F'rinstance, I love Linda Hamilton in T2, and she's definitely a "leading" badass. But I think most would think the primary leading character would have been Ahnald. In "Hunger Games", Jennifer is clearly the lead actor, and Kitniss is without doubt the leading character, subservient to none, nor "rescued" by some male character.
